band news

5.11.10 - OK seriously

I know, I know, we need to update more. AND WE WILL. Know why? TST is fixin' to play more shows. By that I mean Jon, David, and Eric are officially back together and seeking a drummer. This week we are working out the details of a new rehearsal space and getting all our gear back in order (like buying replacements for stuff we sold).

ARE YOU A DRUMMER? Are you fast and loud and articulate and really cool? Drop us a line, let's play!

9.10.08 - Roger

So we're still alive. Most people already know, but for those who don't, The Speeding Trees is back down to the original duo (David and Jon). Shaan left to join some funk band. Yay funk. What? No, of course we're not bitter about it!

Anyway, what we're doing now is completing the album we started before Eric showed up and distracted us from getting things done by asking us to "start a band" with him... and "play shows" ... what do you take us for, musicians?? Well we hope to have this thing done in the next few months so that you can get your face-rocking fix when there aren't enough Trees to put up a show for you!

3.2.08 - Bang Bang

Yesterday we recorded a song that hasn't been recorded (studio style) yet. Many of you have heard it at our shows, and enjoy it almost as much as we find it hilarious. It's called Big Loud Gun, and it rocks. Special thanks go out to Shaan Oberdieck for writing the drums, and to Jonnie Cohen for writing most of the guitar part, back when this was a Doctor Hypnocracy song.

This recording is special, because it sounds goddamn fantastic compared to anything we've recorded so far. Helping this recording is David's new Gretsch drum kit (his old one was used on Three Cheers... true story), a much better room/mic setup, and increased knowledge of engineering/mixing. Find it in the Media section!

2.3.08 - Lineup Changed - Seeking drummer

It is with heavy sorrow and partial erections that we must announce Shaan's departure from The Speeding Trees. This was his decision, we're all still friends, and there are no hard feelings. We still love him, and we'd like to sincerely thank him for all his time, effort, and van. He truly contributed some serious Rock to The Speeding Trees and will be missed. Let's all wish him the best with his future projects.

However, in light of this fact, we are short a drummer (and little pieces of our souls).

For any drummers who are up for the mission, and feel their style could mesh with ours, we'd love to set up tryout jams. Please contact us if you're interested.

In the meantime, TST sans Shaan will be focusing on new material.

Peace, love, and jerky to all!
-The Speeding Trees

7.29.07

First off, we'd like to thank everyone who came out to the show on the 21st in Fairfield and helped make the night a total success! It was so great to see all your sexy faces dancing, moshing, head-banging, and generally having a great time! You guys rock! We had an absolute blast and can't wait to do it again soon!

•Thanks to The Dharma House for hosting the event and keeping everything running smoothly.
•Thanks to North To The Future for kicking the night off and giving a great performance!
•Thanks to Anternicy for lending us their monster PA so we could rock you out loud.
•Thanks to the neighbors for not calling the cops :)
•And thanks to the engineer of that serendipitously timed train that came through right as we were introducing our song "Locomotive Hell". That couldn't have been better if we planned it!

Secondly, thanks to everyone who came to the show last night in Burlington, and especially those who stuck around til the end!!
•Kisses to all our Fairfield friends who came out!
•Thanks to the bands, venue, sound guys and COFEN for making it all happen.
•Thanks to Julia for taking some great photos (which will be on our site later today).

In the next few days we'll be announcing more shows. In the next few weeks we'll be releasing our first demo CD! In the meantime, we have some new shirts in our store for your wearing pleasure.

Hugs & Sprinkles!

7.14.07 - New show! New Demo CD!

We've just confirmed a show for July 21st in Fairfield at the Dharma House! We'll be performing along with North To The Future (killer band from Ottumwa you need to check out!). The show starts at 9:00pm and is open to ages 14 & up. Full details on the Shows Page.

In other news: We're hard at work preparing our demo CD! We're shooting to have all the recordings done in time for the show on the 21st where we'll be selling "pre-official release" copies for a very nominal fee. Check back this week for more updates.

6.28.07 - Update on July 3rd show

The Casbah is moving to a new, bigger location. Our show will be the first one at the new place. We'll be performing with Tattooed Millionaires (a kickass band from Hollywood. Check 'em out!). Visit the shows page for updated address and map. See you there!

6.20.07 - Show confirmed for July 3rd!

We've confirmed our show for July 3 at The Casbah in Ottumwa, IA. Read all about it on the shows page.

6.13.07 - New Song!

We've just added a new song to the media page. It's called Jump Start and we like it. We hope you will too. It's the first recording with all 4 band members playing their parts (most of the other demos were recorded before Eric and Shaan joined the band), so we're even more excited than usual to release this new song! We're hot and heavy into recording new songs so check back soon (and often) for more gems. We'll also be announcing more shows in the next few days... so yeah, keep it locked here, baby!

6.8.07 - Recording

Last night we started recording Shaan on drums for some of the new songs we haven't demo'd yet! Some will be redone again before we post them, since recording allows us to refine our stance on the song and change certain things we didn't hear as strongly before. However, I know that at least one of them will get to the media player very soon! Keep your ears peeled!

6.3.07 - Media

TST at IrisSo we've got a video up in the media player. It's rather short due to high amounts of skipping problems with both the original video footage and our means of getting it from camera to computer. It's a clip from our performance of Three Cheers last Friday in Mt Pleasant. Thanks to Stephanie and Meara for shooting. No thanks to WalMart/JVC for selling me a bogus camera. Anyway, new photos, and another video clip or two, coming soon!

6.2.07 - More success!

Thanks to all the great fans at the Iris show! Muy especial thanks to The Treats for opening, and to Anternicy for headlining (and completing the bone-crushing metal fix that people were looking for). Photos, and possibly videos (the camera's microphone was acting up, so we'll see what we got), coming tomorrow!

The point of this event was to raise money for Relay For Life, a cancer-fighting organization. By playing this show we raised over $600 for them!! Again, thank you to everyone involved for making this fundraising possible, and for making the show insanely fun!

For those of you who were unable to attend, we still have 2 shows lined up! There's the show on June 30th, at the grand reopening of Pure Imagination Tattoo in Mt Pleasant (all ages). Also is the show on July 28th at Burlington Convention Hall (21 and up). Visit the Shows page for full details!

6.1.07 - Giddyup!

So in a few hours here we'll be on our way to our show in Mt Pleasant with the Treats and Anternicy. This weekend we'll get the photos from last weekend's gig, and any we get from this one, up on the media player for your viewing pleasure. Cheers!

5.28.07 - Success!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped, donated and participated with their time and money, and to all the great people who showed up to enjoy the show (that's you)! Thanks for getting our first show off the ground! Thanks to you we are now a gigging band!

For those of you who missed the show, here's a chance to redeem yourselves: our June 1st show!

We have lots of great photos to post (thanks to Tommy Miller), of the band AND the crowd, as well as some fun video snippets that will be arriving soon. Come back often and check the media player for these updates! (Ron, what did you do with that tape?)

Personally I'd like to apologize for the strange vibe that emerged during the show. My feeling is that it was due to certain dodgy PA equipment SNAFUs causing the vocals to drop out occasionally, as well as miscommunication, on our part, on instructing the security personnel. I'm afraid people may have felt a bit too 'regulated'. We noticed that once moshing started it was immediately stopped by security and that was probably a estranging factor. This was not our intention---we simply wanted to keep things on the safe side due to kids going a bit nuts and breaking bones and getting hurt at previous rock shows in Morning Star. Nobody wants to get sued!

In any case, we were definitely glad to see so many faces, some new, some familiar, all sexy. Thanks again to Anternicy for lending us their PA woofers to enhance the bass! We look forward to performing loud and hard with you guys Friday in Mt Pleasant!
-David
